When the electrician should arrive on a kitchen extension
Early. First fix happens before plastering, so socket and lighting positions need agreeing first.
Before the plasterer
Cables, back boxes and the cooker circuit go in at first fix, while the walls are open. Once the plaster is on, every change costs more and leaves a mark.
What to decide on the walk round
- 1Where the appliances go, including the ones you might add later.
- 2Sockets above the worktop, and how many. More than you think.
- 3Under-cabinet and pendant lighting, and where the switches sit.
- 4Whether the board has room for the new circuits, or needs changing.
Second fix
After the plaster and the units: faceplates, lights, the hob and oven connections, then testing of every new circuit and the paperwork.
