The work is quicker, cleaner and cheaper when floors can be lifted and walls chased without working around furniture and family. It also means decorating happens once.
For an empty three-bedroom house, usually one to two weeks, split into first fix (new cables run and boxes set) and second fix (fittings on, everything tested). The timing is in your quote.
Cables are chased into plaster and some floorboards are lifted. Your quote sets out where, and what making good is included.
Not always. Testing first can show that a smaller job, such as a new consumer unit, makes the installation safe.
Orpington mixes 1930s and post-war semis, bungalows, larger detached houses towards Chelsfield and Farnborough, and 1960s and 70s estates. Bungalows and older semis often still have their original boards.
Rewires in Orpington are quoted after a visit to the empty property. Houses with several extensions and converted flats are where testing first matters most, because sometimes a new consumer unit makes the installation safe without a rewire.
Most electrical faults are hidden behind a faceplate or inside a wall. The only way to know an installation is safe is to test it and read the results, so that is where every job starts.
An elderly customer had been told by another firm that her house needed a complete rewire, because bulbs kept blowing. I tested every circuit. The readings were safe. Instead of a rewire, her old fuse board was upgraded to a modern consumer unit with up-to-date protection.
She kept her walls, her decorating and thousands of pounds.

Singles swapped for doubles either side of a bed and behind a TV, before decorating
A weatherproof double by the back door, so no more extension leads through the house

Longer jobs such as rewires are invoiced after first fix and after second fix. Short jobs at the end.
You get the test results and a written record of what was done.
Small jobs usually take a few hours, a consumer unit replacement usually a day, and a rewire of an empty three-bedroom house one to two weeks. Your quote gives the timing for your job.
Small jobs leave little or nothing behind. Rewires and new circuits mean chasing cable into plaster and lifting some floorboards, and your quote says exactly where before work starts.
Your invoice matches the written quote. If anything changed during the job, I explain why and agree it with you before doing the extra work.
